The industry experts below gave their insight for the future of the Captive Insurance industry, and what their associations are doing to innovate the Captive industry.

PRESENTERS
Kevin Mead, President VCIA
Kevin Mead is the President of the VCIA, a member-based association whose mission is to educate, communicate, and advocate on behalf of the Vermont-domiciled captive insurance industry. Kevin began his tenure as President of VCIA in February 2022. Kevin brings a wealth of association management and financial tact to VCIA, having engineered a merger of three global independent accounting associations and forming PrimeGlobal, which represented 2,000 partners and 14,000 employees in 90+ countries. Kevin then facilitated rapid membership and revenue growth, increasing the net income 25% from 2 billion to 2.5 billion USD for PrimeGlobal. After PrimeGlobal, he was the Vice President of Resource Development for Spokane County United Way, a chapter of the biggest charity in the world, and most recently was the Executive Director of a rare disease foundation.

Dan Towle, President CICA
Dan has been President of CICA since April of 2017. Previously, he worked as the Director of Financial Services for the state of Vermont for 17 years. At Vermont he was the chief marketing and business development professional for the state’s captive insurance industry and was instrumental in its growth. During his tenure more than 500 captive insurance companies were licensed in Vermont.

Joe Deems, Executive Director NRRA
Before joining NRRA as the Executive Director, Joe worked as the founding principal of Deems Law Offices APC of Los Angeles, CA, a general practice engaging in civil litigation and insurance law for over three decades, including company formations, contracts, intellectual property and entertainment law. Joe, who has been general counsel to a captive insurance company, consults with clients nationwide on risk and litigation management and is frequently hired as a neutral mediator. He is a member of the California Bar and is licensed to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and the U.S. District courts in California.
